If you’ve experienced pain or trauma from grief or the loss of a relationship you know how lonely that place of being feels. On our instagram page for the month of October we have been talking about the different fears we face. I wanted to dig a little deeper into how we can move past these fears and live in the freedom and peace of Christ. God does not want us to stay stuck in a hard place.

The first thing we can do is to identify the fear and be willing to talk about it. If we stuff it down and put on a happy face we will only regret the feeling down the road. Finding a Christian counselor or therapist is often needed and can be life changing. Being able to understand and process your fears is the key to healing. Working with a therapist can help you to identify and remember who you truly are…you are a child of God and you are loved beyond measure.

Secondly, we can lean on scripture. We can open our Bibles and find verses that speak truth into our life. Reading scripture and seeking God’s Word can help you remember that you are never alone. Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV reads,

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Thirdly, pray continuously. Never stop talking to Jesus. Tell him about your fears, your worries, and ask Him to help you. If you need help with a prayer, try the following:

Dear Lord, thank you for being with me. Even though I can sometimes find it difficult to trust, I want to believe your promises. Show me that I can move forward from my past and live in your freedom. Teach me to lean on you in all circumstances. I want to know you more so that I can see your faithfulness working in my life. Please continue to walk with me. Amen

More scripture and prayers to help you overcome your fears:

“And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:20, CSB

Dear Lord, even though I feel alone right now, help me to truly grasp that you are near. Remind me of your truth and give me your hope that tomorrow is a new day. Help me feel safe in your love. Amen

Psalm 68:5 “A Father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling”

God will help heal you. Taking these steps will help you work through the process. There is no right or wrong way to grieve and it takes time. However, there is light on the other side. I’ve been there. I have lived in the darkness and feared the future. Let him love you. You will be able to find joy again.

Pslam 18:19 “His love broke open the way, and he brought me into a beautiful broad place. He rescued me – Because his delight is in me
