How flexible are you?
I’m not talking about physically, I mean how flexible are you with letting God’s plans play out?
Do you ever find yourself asking, “But, God how about this way?…”
I’ve prayed those prayers before where I think I know better how things should look…
I know that I need to get better at listening to His whispers and not asking for things to go the way I think they should.
Honestly, it’s a bit of a struggle for me. I like to be in control of my actions and this is something I am trying to surrender. I know I need to let go and let God.
So, how do we do this on a practical level? Especially if you are a control freak like me!!
Well, I think we begin by trusting God and asking him through prayer to help guide us.
We need to be in conversation daily with Him which will help build our trust.
We also need to be reading His Word which will help us understand Him better.
Jeremiah 29: 11-13 is one of my favorite scriptures. I have in hanging in my car and by my computer so that I can be reminded of it wherever I am.
It reads, ”This is what the Lord says: “You will be in Babylon for seventy years. But then I will come and do for you all the good things I have promised, and I will bring you home again. For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.“
Jeremiah 29:10-11, 13 NLT
Wow, there’s so much in this verse. First, it talks about God’s promise when He was speaking to the Jewish people. Jeremiah was a prophet who was telling the exiles in Babylon to get busy building their lives. He instructs them not to listen to so called prophets who tell them that their exile will be brief because God hasn’t spoken to them yet. It will actually last seventy years and then God will fulfill his promise and bring them back to their land.
His promise is that when His people seek Him, they will find Him and He will come back for them. I love this!
We can relate to this today…our job is to continue to seek Him wholeheartedly and obediently. When we do this and believe, we are given eternal life in Heaven. He wants us to seek Him through prayer, through communion and through serving others, so that He can then give us what He promises…
Be open to where God is leading you.
